Junk removal questions, answered
Everything you need to know about junk removal in San Francisco
Hiring a junk removal company shouldn't feel like a gamble. Our most-asked questions above cover pricing, what we take, scheduling, and recycling — but San Francisco brings unique wrinkles that deserve a longer answer: steep stairs, narrow garages, strict California disposal laws, and Recology's bulky-item limits, to name a few. The sections below go deeper so you can book with total confidence.
How JYR pricing works
Our rates are based on volume — specifically, how much room your items take up in our 16-yard truck, measured in 1/8 increments. The price you see covers labor for two crew members, transport, dump and recycling fees, and donation drop-offs. There are no hidden charges for stairs in San Francisco walk-ups under three flights, and we never bill by the pound except for very heavy materials like dirt, sod, and concrete. You'll get a firm, written quote on-site before we lift a single item.
What we can and can't take
JYR removes nearly everything a household, office, or job site can produce: furniture, mattresses, appliances, e-waste, yard waste, construction debris, hot tubs, pianos, exercise equipment, and entire estate or storage-unit contents. We can't legally transport hazardous materials — paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, asbestos, medical sharps, ammunition, or industrial chemicals. For a complete list, see our What We Take page.
Scheduling, same-day service, and arrival windows
JYR runs trucks seven days a week across San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Daly City, and South San Francisco. Most appointments are booked in two-hour windows, and our dispatcher will text you a 30-minute heads-up before arrival. Book before 2pm for same-day pickup; weekends fill quickly, so reserve as early as you can. Need a recurring weekly pickup for a property-management portfolio or active job site? We offer standing slots and net-30 invoicing.
Donation, recycling, and our zero-landfill goal
Up to 60% of every load we pick up is diverted from the landfill. Furniture, clothing, kitchenware, and small appliances in good condition go to local Bay Area nonprofits. Metal appliances are recycled for steel and copper. Electronics go to R2-certified processors. Yard waste is composted. Construction debris goes to C&D recovery facilities that meet San Francisco's Construction & Demolition Debris Recovery Ordinance. Tax-deductible donation receipts are available on request.
Insurance, licensing, and trust
JYR is a fully licensed, bonded, and insured Bay Area junk removal company. Property managers, HOAs, and commercial buildings can request a Certificate of Insurance naming additional insured parties before service. Our crews wear branded uniforms, drive marked trucks, protect your floors and walls during removal, and sweep the area before leaving. If anything is missing from this FAQ, just call or text us — we're happy to answer.
